Our CEO's Story

To start with how I got here, let’s rewind to my days at Michigan State University, where I majored in Finance. While my classmates were pursuing investment banking, consulting, and supply chain, I found myself increasingly drawn to the world of technology and Silicon Valley. They seemed fast-paced, innovative, and genuinely exciting—an escape from companies where you are a cog in the machine wearing a traditional suit-and-tie.

But I had a major concern: I wasn't a coder or an engineer. My assumption was that Silicon Valley only valued technical geniuses. How could a finance guy like me break into that world?

Soon, I learned tech companies hire salespeople, and they require no sales or tech background. Just the right attitude. They'll train you up on the rest. That's when my big breakthrough came: joining Sift, a startup in San Francisco, worth over a billion dollars.

Don't know how to code? Doesn't matter

I dove into tech sales headfirst. As a Business Development Representative (BDR) at Sift, I supported talented Account Executives (AE), helping them generate significant revenue and experiencing firsthand how important we were to helping tech companies grow. I directly supported top-performing AEs, like my colleague Lauren, who went from AE to Director of Sales, a role that pays roughly $225K base & $225K bonus. Yes. $500,000 comp.

Seeing her success, buying a home for her family, working remote, having kids, confirmed for me the incredible career trajectory possible in tech sales.

Helping friends do exactly what I did

Over time, I became one of the most senior members of the BDR team. Beyond just hitting quotas, I truly found joy in recruiting and training new teammates, helping them succeed and thrive in their roles. The connections I built weren’t transactional. They are lifelong friendships.

This experience made me realize something crucial. I wasn't just passionate about tech, mentoring and guiding others toward successful careers is my true calling.

From Strangers to Co-Founders

Eventually, I met Chris, who also shared my passion for helping others achieve in their careers and provide for themselves and their family. While I took the path of being employee #1 at a startup after tech sales, Chris went on to be an Enterprise Account Executive at HubSpot. A role paying $220K at a multi-billion dollar public tech company. Together, we founded Tech Sales Mentors, dedicated to guiding ambitious professionals into rewarding tech sales careers.
